I am not I
Pablo Rodes explores the delicate boundaries between selfhood and perception through this video installation. Inspired by Juan Ramón Jiménez, a fragmented and symbolic narrative invites viewers to unravel the layers of the self, confronting the veils that obscure our authentic essence. «I am not I» embodies a personal reflection and a collective quest that emerges from the heart of the School of Art and Design of Alicante.
The faculty and students of this institution represent a creative force within a dynamic community struggling to express itself fully. Inadequate infrastructure hinders their ability to project themselves and gain a foothold in the current landscape. Therefore, the piece becomes a transgressive cry, a call to imagine a future in which the School transcends its barriers.
This work, celebratory and activist in spirit, shows the transformative potential of the EASDA at Las Cigarreras Cultural Center. It claims its yearnings to local society while probing the true meaning of existence and thriving in a world where self-identity is constantly under revision.
I am not I.
I am this one
walking beside me whom I do not see,
whom, at times, I manage to visit,
and whom at other times I forget.
The one who remains silent, serene, when I talk,
the one who forgives, gentle, when I hate,
the one who walks where I am not,
the one who will remain standing when I die.
